Texas Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee
Mike Hatchell continued his ten-year service as a member of the Texas Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee. The committee consists of lawyers, judges, law professors, court clerks, court reporters, and other interested parties appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to advise the Court on and suggest changes to the rules of practice and procedure.

Several important topics were on the agenda for the September 2002 Texas Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee meeting:
- continued discussion of settlement issues, including offer of judgment.
- rule 18c coverage - electronic media coverage.
- revisions to eviction rules.
- biannual review of visiting judges.
- notice in class action proceedings.

Texas Supreme Court Jurisdiction Speech:
Houston Bar Association - Appellate Practice Section Meeting, April 25, 2002, Houston, Texas.
As the featured speaker for the Appellate Practice Section Meeting, Mike Hatchell discussed the latest developments in conflict jurisdiction in the Texas Supreme Court. His speech was entitled, "What's All the Conflict Over Conflict Jurisdiction?"

| Conference on State and Federal Appeals:
University of Texas School of Law, 12th Annual Conference on State and Federal Appeals, June 6, 2002, Four Seasons Hotel, Austin, Texas.
Mike Hatchell shared his approach for preparing motions for rehearings in the appellate courts at the University of Texas School of Law's annual conference for appellate lawyers.
Seminars on Decision-Making by the Texas Supreme Court:
Mike Hatchell participated in several seminar panels that analyzed Texas Supreme Court decisions. Particular emphasis was given to trends in decision-making by the Court and review of the most important decisions over the last term.

This three-venue panel discussion was led by Prof. Pat Hazel of the University of Texas School of Law, David Keltner of Fort Worth, Texas, and Prof. Wayne Scott of St. Mary's School of Law. Mike Hatchell joined his colleague Russell McMains of Corpus Christi to discuss the most important decisions of the Texas Supreme Court over the 2000-2001 term and identify important trends and patterns in the Court's decision-making.
